16/09/08 BURA's stand on the land grab issue:

The Bandar Utama Residents’ Association (BURA) is shocked to learn that, as recently reported, plots of land meant for public amenities have been alienated to individuals, bodies, corporations and even political parties and subsequently converted for commercial development or purposes other than the provision of public amenities. BURA is outraged at the lack of consultation with the residents and the Residents’ Association on changes to the originally approved master plans without due consideration to the future requirements for plots of land to accomodate public amenities required in Bandar Utama.

BURA urges the Selangor State Government and the Petaling Jaya City Council to take immediate steps to recover these plots of land from the respective recipients and to gazette the same for the common use of the residents living in Bandar Utama. BURA would also like to demand that all parties having received plots of land in Bandar Utama which are meant for public amenities return the same to the State Government to be held for and on behalf of the residents of Bandar Utama. Failing which, the present State Government should make available and gazette alternative plots of lands to accommodate future requirements for public amenities within the Bandar Utama township.

BURA demands that the authorities immediately take all necessary action including criminal prosecution against both the recipients of these plots of lands in Bandar Utama and also against those in the previous governments found to have illegally and unlawfully engaged themselves in the process of alienation and conversion of these plots of land in Bandar Utama which were meant for public amenities.
